Google Doodle commemorates Paralympic powerlifting event with animated artwork

Google Doodle Today, Powerlifting: To commemorate the event on September 5, the Google Doodle shows a huge bird lifting a big baguette like a barbell.

Powerlifting Paralympics 2024 Google Doodle: On September 5, Google marked the powerlifting event with an animated artwork featuring a bluebird. According to the official Olympics website, para powerlifting tests the upper body strength of the athletes.

To commemorate the event, the Google Doodle shows a huge bird lifting a big baguette like a barbell with a little brown bird resting and gorging on a piece of bread. The background has a spread of several kinds of breads on display.

Also known as para lifting, the event made its debut during the Tokyo 1964 Games. 20 years later in 1984, powerlifting was first included as a Paralympic sport. However, the women’s powerlifting competition was introduced at the Sydney Paralympic Games in 2000.

The eligible impairments for the event include cerebral palsy, orthopedic disability, neurological disability, paraplegia and tetraplegia, and evolving neurological disability. Men compete in weight categories of 49 kg, 54 kg, 59 kg, 65 kg, 72 kg, 80 kg, 88 kg, 97 kg, 107 kg, and over 107 kg, while women compete in 41 kg, 45 kg, 50 kg, 55 kg, 61 kg, 67 kg, 73 kg, 79 kg, 86 kg, and over 86 kg.

Para powerlifting event scheduled for September 5, Thursday are following:

  • Women’s up to 50 kg Final
  • Men’s up to 59 kg Final
  • Women’s up to 55 kg Final
  • Men’s up to 65 kg Final
